ABOUT   CLARE

Clare takes a curious, narrative-driven lens to her music, exploring sound through fresh orchestration and organic motivic development.

Clare Howard is a composer from Saint Paul, Minnesota, who seeks to weave narratives and curiosity into her compositions. Clare's approach to music leverages innovative orchestration and organic motivic development, inviting listeners on a journey to new aural landscapes.

In Clare's view, the true triumph of composition is its ability to invite listeners into carefully crafted worlds, to encourage them to lose themselves. It's an invitation to explore, to feel, and to connect - whether it's a deep introspective journey or a lighthearted escapade. Each composition, in its own unique way, offers a chance for the listeners to step away from their realities and step into a new realm. In these valued moments, music is a shared language, a connection that bridges composer and listener.

Completing her degree in composition in the spring of 2023 from the University of Saint Thomas, Clare studied under the expert guidance of Dr. Joshua Bauder and Michael Zocchi. During her time at Saint Thomas, her works were played by various ensembles including Dr. Doug Orzolek’s Symphonic Wind Band, Jeff Rinear’s Jazz Ensemble, and the University’s Festival Orchestra. An international premiere in Greece by Dr. Matthew George’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble marked a significant milestone in her journey.
